September, ah, the month of going back to school! The residents aka students were treated to their own school day. Subjects such as math, spelling, reading comprehension, writing, phys ed, and art, taught by Mrs. Taylor provided a day, complete with recess, report cards and of course, an afternoon snack! It was interesting for the students to see what they recalled in the subjects and what they remembered about school!

Providing for residents' physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social needs is what we are called to do. Residents appreciated learning time together recently, celebrating a Lakota Afternoon. The program centered around Mitákuye Oyás'iŋ - "mee ta KOO ya O YAH seen” It’s a Lakota phrase that expresses the world view that all things are connected – humans, animals, plants, rocks, rivers, trees and the stars. It reminds us that harm to one part of life affects the whole.
